Have your say

Option A - stopping all through traffic except essential vehicles

This option includes eight modal filters to prevent other traffic from passing through the area, creating a quieter and safer neighbourhood. Local traffic can access each zone from Greenwich High Road, Greenwich South Street or Blackheath Hill, however traffic can't move between the coloured zones.

All addresses would be accessible by vehicle at all times in every option, however drivers may have to take a different route. This includes deliveries, taxis, emergency vehicles and waste collection vehicles.

Where camera-enforced (ANPR) filters are proposed, they will allow emergency vehicles, refuse vehicles and taxis (hackney carriages) unrestricted access through the ANPR filters. Blue Badge holders, including children, who live in the restricted area would be eligible to apply for a free permit exempting their vehicle, which would allow them access through the ANPR filters.

West Greenwich design proposal Option A

Measures include:

  • Four camera-enforced (ANPR) filters: two on Royal Hill, one on Circus Street and one on Crooms Hill
  • physical barriers (e.g. bollards) to prevent through-traffic on Winforton Street, Maidenstone Hill and Cade Road, placed to reduce the need for turning
  • introducing a no entry restriction at Lindsell Street’s junction with Greenwich South Street
  • removing the existing modal filter on Gloucester Circus and the no entry restriction on King George Street

Option B – stopping most through traffic except essential vehicles

This option includes four modal filters, restricting access to and from Blackheath Hill, to prevent other traffic from passing through the area. It is designed to stop most through traffic using key streets that run from north to south. The neighbourhood is accessible for other traffic from Greenwich High Road and Greenwich South Street.

  • introducing a one-way traffic restriction (south-west direction) on Burney Street; depending on which traffic management design options are progressed, cyclists would be allowed to travel in both directions where feasible
  • introducing a no entry restriction at Lindsell Street’s junction with Greenwich South Street

Option C – reducing through traffic

This option includes three modal filters and some additional traffic restrictions to discourage through traffic from using some of the main north-south routes.

Measures include:

  • 3 camera-enforced (ANPR) filters: one on Hyde Vale, one on Cade Road to prevent through traffic from Blackheath Hill and one on Crooms Hill
  • introducing a one-way traffic restriction southbound on Royal Hill between Circus Street and Prior Street, stopping northbound traffic
  • introducing a one-way traffic restriction (south-west direction) on Burney Street; depending on which traffic management design options are progressed, cyclists would be allowed to travel in both directions where feasible
  • introducing a no entry restriction on Lindsell Street and Maidenstone Hill, allowing only westbound traffic and simplifying traffic movements in the area
